Frequently Asked Questions
Everything families ask us most, in one place. Don’t see your question? Contact the studio and we’ll be glad to help.
Getting Started
Do you offer a free trial class?
Yes — you can try a class free to experience Ovation before you enroll. It's the best way to see if a class is the right fit.
How do I register?
Registration is easy through our online Parent Portal (Jackrabbit). You can also contact the studio and we'll help you choose the right class and get signed up.
Ages & Levels
What age can my child start dance?
As young as 1 year old (18 months) in our Grown Up & Me classes with a caregiver. Preschoolers and toddlers can also join AcroDance, and we offer classes all the way through adult.
How do you place dancers in classes?
We group classes by age but place dancers by ability too, so some classes span more than one age group. A young dancer with the right skills might move up — for instance, a five-year-old with the skills for Acro Jr. We'll help you find the perfect fit.
Do you have classes for boys?
While we don't have classes exclusively for boys, we warmly welcome them into all of our classes. Dance builds confidence, coordination, strength, discipline and teamwork for every child. Our most popular classes for boys are Hip Hop, Acro and Tap.
Classes & Styles
What styles do you teach?
Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, acro and AcroDance, combo classes, musical theater, pom and technique, plus adult dance and dance-fitness.
What should my child wear for class?
Dancers may choose traditional dancewear (leotard/biketard/dance dress and tights) or activewear (leggings/shorts and a t-shirt or tank). Clothing should be comfortable but not baggy, and long hair should be pulled back. See our Dress Code page for shoe requirements by class.
Enrollment & Season
How long does dance run?
Classes start in September and run through our recital in June. The fall session runs September–December and the spring session January–June, with the same class schedule both sessions. Most students dance the full year, but you can opt for a single session. We welcome new students through February 15.
Can I enroll for just one session?
Yes. Most students dance the full year, but some join just for the fall or the spring session. We occasionally add new classes each session, too.
Tuition & Fees
How much does it cost?
Tuition is based on the total class time per family each week — the more classes you take, the less it costs per class. There's a $30 annual registration fee per family. Certain limited-time classes have a set fee. See our Tuition and Fees page for the full breakdown.
When is tuition due?
Tuition is posted on the 1st and due by the 20th of each month, with a $25 late fee after that. You can pay automatically by e-payment, or online or in person beforehand.
Programs & Teams
Do you compete?
No — Ovation is a non-competitive studio. We do offer an optional performance company for dancers who want more stage time. Our company has performed at Kennywood, local nursing homes and community events.
What is the recital? Is it expensive?
The recital is our end-of-year performance where dancers show off everything they've learned. There are some costs (mainly costumes and tickets), but we keep it as affordable as possible — and participation is optional.
Do you offer adult classes?
Yes — adult dance classes (Adult Tap, Adult Ballet) plus dance-fitness like Party-O, Strong Nation, Bodiography, Zumba and Saturday Boot Camp, available by monthly pass or drop-in.
